Blow for South Sudanese citizens based in the USA after the declaration of their visas’ revocation.
On Sunday morning, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a sweeping measure that could have serious implications for Kenya’s refugee management.
Rubio noted that the US would revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and impose restrictions on the issuance of any new visas to South Sudanese nationals.

According to Rubio, Trump’s administration has taken the move due to the failure of South Sudan’s transitional government to accept the return of its repatriated citizens on time.
”I am taking actions to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and to restrict any further issuance to prevent entry into the United States, effective immediately, due to the failure of South Sudan’s transitional government to accept the return of its repatriated citizens on time,” Rubio stated.
Since his return to the White House in Washington D.C., President Donald Trump has had a strict stance regarding the US’s immigration policy.
Trump’s administration, besides tightening the immigration policies, has also embarked on actualising drastic measures to concentrate resources on the American people.
The president hit headlines the world over when he announced a funds freeze on charitable causes funded by the US government for decades.
Recently, the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced the cancellation of a contract for the US State Department that was being undertaken in Kenya.
It was explained that the cancellation was part of the reforms being undertaken by the unit which was appointed to cut down wasteful expenditures of the US government.
