Health Officials Warn of Possible Cholera Outbreak

The Ministry of Health on Friday, April 5, 2025, urged Kenyans to be on high alert after a cholera outbreak that has been diagnosed in 69 patients.

Reports indicate that the outbreak is widespread in Nairobi, Migori and Kisumu Counties.

The pandemic has so far claimed five lives.

According to reports, Migori has reported 43 cases where 27 are male and 16 are female.

The ministry revealed that the outbreak of the disease is due to the contamination of the River Migori.

In Kisumu, three people are already dead with 15 cases recorded where the majority are women.

The Ministry also stated that unsafe areas such as Ombeyi village in Muhoroni are fueling the spread of the disease.

In Nairobi, Kasarani, Kibra, Dagorretti and Embakasi have been termed as hotspot areas with 11 cases reported so far.

To curb the spread of the disease, hospitals have been urged to report any suspected cases to ensure efficient identification and management of new cases.

Nairobi residents have also been urged to step up hygiene practices and protocols to prevent more infections of the deadly disease.
