Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres produced a moment of magic that secured Barcelona’s place in the Copa del Rey final, setting up an exciting Clasico clash against Real Madrid.
The attacking duo combined to score a brilliant goal, leading Barcelona to a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday.
Ferran Torres’ first-half strike was enough to secure the win for Hansi Flick’s team and confirm their place in the final. The second leg began similarly to the entertaining 4-4 first leg, with both teams attacking aggressively.
Early on, Cesar Azpilicueta was subject to a VAR review for a potential red card after fouling Raphinha within the first six minutes, but the referee ultimately decided to issue just a yellow card.
Before the half-hour mark, Lamine Yamal delivered a splendid pass to Ferran Torres, who replaced Robert Lewandowski as the striker. Torres found the bottom corner with a precise finish, giving Barcelona a 5-4 lead on aggregate.
In the 40th minute, Raphinha had a great chance to extend the lead when he broke through the offside trap, but his shot, taken from a difficult angle, was well saved by Juan Musso.
At halftime, Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone brought on Alexander Sorloth, who came close to scoring just five minutes later, hitting the side netting from a tight angle. Sorloth thought he had equalized in the 68th minute, getting past Ronald Araujo, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.
Atletico Madrid continued to push for a goal, but they lacked the quality to break through Barcelona’s defense. As a result, Barcelona will face their Clasico rivals Real Madrid in the final on April 26.
