President William Ruto sparked outrage after recently donating about Ksh.19M to a church in Nairobi, months after declaring that such acts increase corruption.
The pledge delivered to the Jesus Winner Ministry Church led to protesters gathering there a week later.
They demanded the return of the money and termed it as ‘stolen tax money’, where they got teargassed by the police.
Reports indicate that such donations have become political theatre.

Citing MP Oscar Sudi, he delivered a sack containing three million shillings to a church based in Uasin Gishu last year, as stated by AFP.
The acts led to mass protests, which prompted Ruto to ban government officials from participating in fundraising for churches.
“No State officer or public servant shall participate in public contributions or any fundraisers going forward. It is occasioning and it is breeding, as many say, corruption,” the Head of State said in June.
According to the latest developments, Ruto appears to be doing the opposite of what he says.
Now the public wants to know where the money sent to churches is procured from, even though the government made it clear that the money comes from Ruto’s funds.
