Egypt will host the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Ivory Coast withdrew as the designated host due to unforeseen circumstances, as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF awarded the hosting rights to Egypt based on a strong bid previously submitted by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian government.
Egypt, already qualified for the tournament, has been placed in Group B alongside Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. The competition will kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with the final scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Among the 12 participating teams, Kenya will be making its AFCON U20 debut. The Rising Stars have been placed in Group C, where they will compete against defending champions Senegal, 2017 winners Zambia, and fellow debutants Sierra Leone.
The tournament’s four semifinalists will secure spots at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, which will take place from September 27 to October 19.
