Impeachment Motion Filed Against South Korea’s Acting President Amid Controversy

South Korea’s opposition parties have reportedly raised a motion to impeach the acting President Choi Sang-mok.

The motion to impeach him was filed on Friday, March 21 2025, as was reported by the majority Democratic Party.

The acting president angered opposition parties by repeatedly vetoing bills and holding off appointing a Constitutional Court justice approved by the assembly which is viewed as liberal-leaning.

This makes the nine-member constitutional court have eight justices.

However, Choi said his focus is entirely on stabilizing the country which is in the midst of International and domestic turbulence.

The court on the other hand is reviewing Yoon’s impeachment and is expected to deliver its ruling soon on whether to impeach him or reinstate him.

He had declared an emergency marital law on the night of December 3rd which was revoked by the National Assembly hours later.

If Yoon is ousted, a new election will be required to be held within 60 days.
