TikTok Rolls Out New Parental Control to Boost Teen Safety

TikTok has revealed plans to roll out new safety and well-being tools following community feedback on the impact of the social media content on teens.

In a press statement on March 19, 2025, TikTok disclosed that new safety and well-being tools will foster healthier digital habits for teens.

Since the Family pairing feature was launched five years ago, TikTok has continued updating it as required.

The new updates include Time Away Scheduling which will allow parents to set screen-free periods when their teens are not allowed to use TikTok.

According to the new updates, the periods might include during school hours, bedtime or family time.

The second feature updated is Expanded Family Visibility which will enable parents to monitor who their teen follows and who follows them as well as block accounts to facilitate open discussions about online interactions.

The other feature is Proactive Reporting Alerts which will allow teens to report a video for potentially violating TikTok’s rules. This will encourage ongoing conversations between teens and their families about their TikTok experience.

“These new updates are part of our ongoing commitment to empowering families with the tools they need to foster healthy digital habits” Adam Presser, Head of Operations and Trust Safety at TikTok said.
