The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has issued a six-month relocation notice to health facilities operating in restricted areas.
In a recent statement, KMPDC noted that the restricted areas which include petrol stations and residential buildings are unsuitable for healthcare operations.
“Health facilities located in restricted areas, such as petrol stations and residential buildings, are hereby notified that these locations are unsuitable for healthcare operations,” part of the statement read.

The council went on to note that the restrictions on the health facilities located in restricted areas aim to reduce the spread of infections and ensure the safety of patients.
According to KMPDC, safety concerns such as risks from flammable materials, inadequate infrastructure, and disturbances necessitated the directive.
“Additionally, safety concerns such as risks from flammable materials, inadequate infrastructure, and disturbances that compromise patient care necessitate this directive,” KMPDC stated.
KMPDC further warned that health facilities that fail to comply with the directive would be closed down once the ultimatum ends.
“To provide a safe and conducive environment for both patients and the community, these facilities must relocate within six months. Failure to comply will result in closure.”
