Body of Police Officer Who Died in Haiti Arrives in Kenya

The body of police officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, who died in Haiti, arrived in Kenya on Monday evening, March 10.

The body was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service (APS) Gilbert Masengeli.  

Also present at JKIA were NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, Kajiado Senator Peris Tobiko, family members and friends of the late officer and family spokesperson George Kimiti.

According to NPS, Tompoi’s body was later transported to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation, pending burial arrangements set for a later date. 

The officer was killed on February 23, 2025, during an operation against gangs in the Ségur-Savien area of the Artibonite department.  

The officer sustained injuries during the mission and was airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

This incident marked the first casualty among the Kenyan contingent. 

The MSS mission has been operating in Haiti since June 2024 to help in controlling violent gangs.
