NACADA Flags Airbnb’s a New Hotspot for Drug Abuse

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has raised an alarm about the increasing use of Airbnb rentals as a centre point for drug abuse.

In a statement released on Monday 10 2025, NACADA disclosed that private rental spaces such as Airbnbs are being used as venues for drug-fueled parties, illegal alcohol consumption, and in some cases, tragic fatalities due to substance overdose.

NACADA stated that in collaboration with law enforcement, they have been able to conduct a crackdown on illicit drug operations in entertainment venues and residential areas, which has forced individuals to use them in hidden locations such as Airbnb.

According to the NACADA reports, 23% of young adults aged 18-24 have engaged in drug abuse in social gatherings and private sectors.

The authority now urges Airbnb hosts to report suspicious activities and exercise due diligence in screening guests.

Assuring the public that they are committed to fighting drugs and alcohol abuse, NACADA promises that in collaboration with the police, they will curb the emerging threats.

They, therefore, advised parents, guardians and communities to actively engage young people in constructive activities to steer them away from the dangers of drug abuse.
