IG Kanja Addresses Death of Police Officer Killed in Haiti

IG Douglas Kanja has visited the family of a police officer Samuel Tompoi who was killed in the Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti.

Speaking at the officer family home in Naserian village, Kajiado County, Kanja confirmed that Tompoi’s body will arrive in Kenya between the 4th and 6th of March.

The IG was accompanied by senior officers of the NPS, including Deputy Inspector Generals Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli.

He also confirmed that all logistics preparations for transporting the body had been completed.

While speaking during the visit, the IG expressed his condolences to the family and described the deceased as a hero who died fighting to restore security and protect Haitians’ rights.

Kanja added that his passing was a significant loss to the National Police service.

Tompoi was shot on February 23, 2025, during patrol in Haiti.

He was rushed to Aspen Level 2 Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries two days after he was taken to the ICU.

“Today, Sunday, February 23, 2025, one of our MSS officers from the Kenyan contingent was injured during an operation in Segur-Savien, in the Artibonite department. The officer was immediately airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to injuries,” the notice read.
