Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu was halted by Embu residents while trying to warn them against missing out on government programs amidst growing criticism of Ruto’s government.
Speaking in Embu during a funeral service, the Senator acknowledged that the county residents had become one of the biggest critics of the government.
Nyamu went on to urge the residents to join the Social Health Authority (SHA), which was initiated by Ruto.

She moreover noted that she should not be called for harambees if the residents fail to take heed of her advice.
As she was addressing the congregation, some of the members were heard murmuring, noting they are not interested.
“Even when you fight the government, because I hear you are, register with SHA. Don’t let government programmes pass you because of politics. When you become sick, you will be on your own. SHA is a world-class programme. It has teething problems. I should not be called for harambees when somebody is sick.”
Embu has become one of the areas where there has been public opposition to President Ruto and his government.
Notably, during a funeral service attended by Public Service CS Justin Muturi on January 3, 2025, residents refused to listen to Ruto’s speech that was to be read by the CS.
