The duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane each scored a goal as Al-Nassr achieved a convincing 2-0 victory over Al-Wehda at the King Abdulaziz Sports City.
The first half ended without any goals, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. However, just after the start of the second half, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner gave Al-Nassr a lead with a header in the 48th minute. Ronaldo assisted Ângelo, allowing him to lead the SIUUU celebration, marking Cristiano’s 925th career goal.
Following the opening goal, Ronaldo’s team attempted to secure another, but Al-Wehda tightened their defense to prevent any further scoring.
In the closing minutes of the match, Al-Nassr was awarded a free kick, which Ronaldo took. However, a twist occurred when Ronaldo’s powerful shot deflected off an opposing defender’s arm and resulted in a corner kick. The visitors appealed for a penalty, and after a thorough VAR review, the referee ruled in favor of Al-Nassr.
As Cristiano Ronaldo approaches the milestone of 1,000 career goals, the former Real Madrid superstar, who is also Al-Nassr’s designated penalty taker, displayed sportsmanship by giving the penalty kick opportunity to his teammate Sadio Mane. Mane had struggled to find the net in his previous nine matches for the club. Ronaldo was also seen urging the away fans to stop whistling while Mane prepared to take the penalty.
With the emphatic win, Al-Nassr remains firmly in third place in the Saudi Pro League standings, with 47 points, eight points behind the league leaders Al-Ittihad.
In the ongoing 2024-2025 season, Ronaldo has recorded 24 goals and four assists in 29 games. He currently boasts a total of 925 career goals and is just a few steps away from scoring for the 1,000th time.
