Neymar Scores from the Corner-kick to Silence Boos from Rival Fans

Neymar is renowned for his eccentric playing style, and on Sunday, he reminded fans of his brilliance by scoring an unusual goal for Santos against Internacional.

However, in recent years, supporters have been deprived of his talents due to a series of injuries.

His return to Santos has captivated both fans and media alike. In just six appearances for the club, he has demonstrated glimpses of his former self, accumulating two goals and three assists.

During the 12th round of the Paulist League, Neymar was the standout performer in the match against Internacional Limeira, contributing significantly to his team’s commanding 3-0 victory.

Just nine minutes into the match, Neymar assisted Tiquinho Soares for the first goal. In the 27th minute, he scored one himself, and by the 32nd minute, he assisted Soares again.

The highlight of the match was Neymar’s stunning goal from a corner kick. He showcased incredible technique, curling the ball directly into the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

As Neymar approached the corner flag, he was met with a chorus of boos from the home fans inside the Estádio Major José Levy Sobrinho in São Paulo.

Playing into this, he cupped his ear to the crowd. Then, moments later, he stepped up to take the corner while several teammates jostled for position in the penalty area, hoping to head the ball home.

However, Neymar required no assistance; his inswinging corner kick deceived Igo Pereira, the goalkeeper for the home side. This type of goal is often referred to as an ‘Olimpico’ and is rarely seen in professional football.

The name originates from a remarkable incident in 1924, when Cesareo Onzari scored directly from a corner for Argentina against the reigning Olympic champions, Uruguay.

This goal quickly became known as “Gol Olimpico” or “Olympic goal” in Spanish.Such goals are indeed rare, and only a handful of players, including Thierry Henry and Son Heung-min, can claim to have scored an ‘Olimpico’ during their careers.
