Police have arrested seven suspected members of a criminal gang during a crackdown at Githioro Market in Nakuru County.
The suspects were apprehended by officers from Githioro Police Station following intelligence reports that a group of suspected gang members was operating and hiding within the market.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers moved into the market after receiving the information and found the suspects inside one of the stalls.

The seven suspects were identified as Paul Maina Kariuki, alias Spata; James Kinyanjui Njuguna; Joseph Mburu Mburu, alias Mbocho; Victor Kariuki Gichanga, alias Kirio; David Chege Chege; Micky Nicky Hutten; and Daniel Mwaura Karanja.
A search of the stall where the suspects were found led to the recovery of several crude weapons believed to have been in the gang’s possession.
The weapons included pangas and axes, which were seized by police and preserved as exhibits as investigations into the suspects’ activities continue.
The DCI further established that one of the suspects, Paul Maina Kariuki alias Spata, was already wanted by Githioro Police Station over a separate defilement case.
The case was reported on July 25, 2026, according to the investigative agency.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt criminal gangs and prevent them from operating in different parts of Nakuru County.
The seven suspects remain in police custody as officers complete processing before they are arraigned in court.
Investigations are expected to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities and whether they are linked to other offences reported in the area.
