Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects in connection with a daring robbery at an M-Pesa shop in Katangi, Yatta Sub-County, where an attendant was robbed of Sh169,000 on May 15, 2026.
The breakthrough came following a meticulously coordinated police operation triggered by a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
Officers from Katangi acted swiftly on the intelligence, intercepting and apprehending the first suspect, Ben Mutuku, at Katangi Shopping Centre.

The operation’s net then expanded to Yathui in Mwala Sub-County, where two more suspects were cornered.
Simon Makau and Samuel Mbolu were arrested while travelling in a white Toyota Corolla, registration number KDU 164G. The vehicle has since been impounded as an exhibit.
During the operation, detectives also recovered an M-Pesa till phone that had been stolen during the robbery.
The device was positively identified by the M-Pesa attendant who was on duty at the time of the incident, further strengthening the case against the suspects.
The three suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing as investigations continue.
They are expected to be arraigned in court once the necessary legal formalities are complete.
The impounded motor vehicle and the recovered mobile phone are being held as exhibits to aid in the ongoing probe.
The DCI has commended members of the public for their cooperation, which played a crucial role in the swift arrest of the suspects.
